Massage Oil vs Body Oil

What is the difference between massage oil and body oil?

Massage oils and body oils can differ greatly in many ways including scent, consistencies, and ingredients. A massage oil is typically heavier in consistency, spreads easily, has a higher essential oil concentration, and is less absorbed by the skin. Massage oils work to ease sore muscles, relax tension, and decrease the friction during the massage. A massage oil feels smooth, glides over the skin easily, and allows the masseuse to reach superficial and deep layers.

A body oil is a lightweight oil that is quickly absorbed into the skin. The main goal of body oil is to hydrate, nourish, and protect your skin. Body oils are composed of rich carrier oils such as oils derived from plants, seeds, kernels, and nuts.

Are there any ingredients to avoid or ingredients to look for?

We always suggest avoiding ingredients that are drying or irritating. Drying ingredients include alcohols, such as SD alcohols, as they can be counterproductive after your massage. We also suggest avoiding fragrance as it can cause irritation, allergic reactions, and contact dermatitis after use. You want to look for hydrating and nourishing ingredients such as safflower/sunflower oil, grapeseed oil, pumpkin seed oil, meadowfoam, and vitamin E.

Do you recommend these oils for sensitive skin?

Yes! We suggest doing a test spot/area for sensitive skin individuals. We recommend researching ingredients and avoiding harsh fragrances, chemicals, and drying alcohols.
